Shrinking the tempdb

use tempdb
go

dbcc shrinkfile (tempdev, ‘target size in MB’)
go

After the free space is removed, the initial size of the DB may have to be changed (if it is set to a large number). Use the command:

USE master
GO
ALTER DATABASE tempdb
MODIFY FILE
(NAME = tempdev,
SIZE = 2048MB)
GO
