SQL server

Trace flags and performance.

Set flags to boost performance??? Yes, there are certain trace flags that can be set to change the way SQL server works. These settings improve performance for larger systems (8+ CPUs, 8+ GB RAM, etc…). There is an nice KB article for this here: tuning options in high performance workloads

Here are a few excerpts (many more in the link): Trace flag 652: Disable page pre-fetching scans, Trace flag 661: Disable the ghost record removal process, Trace flag 834: Use Microsoft Windows large-page allocations for the buffer pool, Trace flag 836: Use the max server memory option for the buffer pool.

The scope of these TFs (Trace Flags) can be server or session based. Look up the KB for more details.
